PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE
Amanda obtained formal registration in April 1999, completing her studies in December 1998. She initially specialised in child and adolescent mental health, training as an intern and then assuming a full time position in a child and adolescent mental health service in central Auckland. In late 1999 she moved to London and obtained a position in a specialist child protection assessment service that provided independent assessments to the court for complex cases involving severe child abuse and neglect. In the years since Amanda has developed further specialties that orient around populations who offend or who are victim to serious crimes, assessment of cognitive and developmental disabilities, and refugees and asylum seekers. She set up a private practice in 2001. This practice initially spanned the Waikato and Auckland Regions. From September 2004 when she was appointed as a Specialist Assessor under the Intellectual Disability (Compulsory Care and Rehabilitation) Act 2003 Amanda has worked all over New Zealand.
